Your Counselor as a Resource

The college process is a three-way partnership between the student, the parents and the counselor. However, the responsibility for completing applications, meeting deadlines and making decisions should rest on the student’s shoulders. Counselors and parents are there to support this process and provide advice and encouragement.

How your counselor can help:

  • Your counselor is the person who can guide and advise you on colleges and universities
  • You may ask your counselor to provide a letter of recommendation
  • Your counselor will help you coordinate the admissions process
  • Your counselor is your advocate!

Parents: if possible, try to contact your student's counselor to discuss academic planning and issues related to college readiness.
